How to Fly Safely
As a kiteflyer, it is your responsibility to make sure you fly safely. Please try to use common sense and follow some of the tips below to prevent damage to property or injury to yourself or a bystander.
First of all, NEVER fly near Airports, Power Lines, Roads and Moving Vehicles. When you are picking out a location to fly your kite, try to find an clear, open area that is relatively clear of trees and other obstacles (like light poles and other people) that your kite or kiteline might get caught up in. Nothing ruins a kite flying day faster than getting your kite stuck in a tree or light pole.
Second, NEVER fly in the rain or lightning. Electricity in clouds is attracted to damp kite lines and foolish kite flyers.
Third, wind that is too strong or too light is difficult to fly in. Winds between 5 - 25 mph are the best to fly in. Any more and you run the risk of breaking your kite or kite line. Most kites come with a recommended wind range. Follow the manufacturers guidelines to prevent breaking your kite or kiteline.
Fourth, ALWAYS stay away from spectators or passers-by. Kites should never be flown where spectators could be injured by a stray kite.
If you find that your kite has tangled with another, do not yank the line or it might break. The flyers should walk together and the tangle will slide right down the line to where you can unwrap it. Do not panic.
Most of all, Kiteflying is fun, remember to be considerate and never be a danger to yourself or others!
