Be the BKFA Kite Inventor of 2006
This was originally posted to the rec.kites Usenet group by Andrew Beattie. This sounds like a really interesting competition. We can’t wait to see what becomes of it!The year 2006 is the 200th anniversary of the man who many would argue was the best engineer and inventor that the world has ever known, the legendary Briton, Isumbard Kingdom Brunel.
In recognition of his work the British Kite Flying Association (www.bkfa.org.uk) has teamed up with Bristol Kite Festival (www.kite-festival.org) to organise a competition to recognise and reward innovation in kite flying.
Entries are solicited to compete for the trophy and title of BKFA Kite Inventor of 2006
Entries can be any invention that pushes forward the art or science of kite flying.
For example:
- A new design of kite
- A new method of kite construction
- A new design of bridle
- A new style of decoration
To give you an idea of what the judges are looking for, here are some examples that would be ranked highly when they were new:
- Moving transparencies
- The circoflex
- Super-ripstop
- The active bridle
Entries should include:
- The name, address and phone number of the inventor
- A description of the innovation
- A working model or example of the invention to demonstrate the
function or artistry
To qualify, you must get your entry to Bristol kite festival, on 2nd and 3rd September 2006
